Vali Incorporated is seeking a Technical Writer III who will support the Naval Surface Warfare Center located in Dahlgren, VA. The successful candidate will develop, write and edit material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instructions books, catalogs and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment. Interviews production and engineering personnel and reads journals, reports, and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods. Organizes material and completes writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.  Reviews published materials and recommends revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of work and revisions.  Edits material prepared by other writers or personnel.  May specialize in writing material regarding work methods and procedures.

Job Description:

  • Perform technical writing for technical and administrative publications. Provide configuration control and maintain oversight at all stages of document generation and maintenance.
  • Complete technical writing for system test procedures, user operation instruction manuals, and preventative maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Perform technical editing of existing government documents and presentations to ensure technical consistency, format consistency, and proper conduct configuration control and maintain oversight at all stages of document generation and maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • 3 + years of technical writing and editing experience.
  • Experience in collecting and organizing information for preparation of user manuals, training materials, installation guides, and reports.
  • Experience editing functional descriptions, system specifications, user manuals, special reports, or any other customer deliverables and documents.
  • Ability to interpret system engineering specifications.
  • Knowledge of configuration management processes.
  • Must have strong organization and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Must be able to obtain a DoD security clearance; current clearance would be a plus. 

 Desired Skills:

  • Prior technical writing support for a weapon combat systems program.
